Alan Wilson's state salary more than doubled while South Carolina families cut back on groceries just to get by.

When Alan Wilson took office, the state paid him $92,007 a year. By 2023 his salary was $185,119, after a raise approved by the state's Agency Head Salary Commission, which cited the need to attract strong candidates for statewide office. By 2024 his salary was $208,000. Add his Guard pay and his state car, and his total income from the Attorney General's office topped $251,000 in 2025.7

Wilson never said no to any of it. Today, 67 percent of South Carolinians say they struggle to afford groceries.17
